VOLUNTEER

Volunteer

The TLC can always use volunteers for preserve stewardship, project assistance, project coordination, and promotions. If you care about nature, we are sure we can put your skills, knowledge, and interests to work. Maybe you live near one of our preserves and would like to be a sanctuary warden. Tell us what would like to do and we likely have work for you. Maybe you want to save a woods or other natural area in your neighborhood. We may be able to help. The TLC invites volunteers to bring their own projects to us, to make use of our expertise, and to work together to protect natural areas. We can help you with regulations, advocacy, strategy, and fundraising. You can act as project coordinator with the TLC as your support team.

Stewardship

The TLC always needs help to steward our preserves. Most of the work is invasive weed control but can also include propagation of native plants, species inventories, building and maintaining preserve structures, photography, and more.

Guide

You could guide a nature walk. No special knowledge is required, although it doesn’t hurt. Often, people just enjoy getting out to experience a different place.

Educate

Do you have particular knowledge of plants, animals, natural communities, natural features, soils, water, or other nature-related subjects? How about edible or medicinal plants, or natural crafts? You could organize an event or help the TLC add web site content, or produce educational documents.

Promote

We need help promoting the TLC in general and TLC programs like Naturehoods and the Saint Clair River Delta Ramsar Initiative. We need help promoting our fundraising efforts for land acquisition and preserve stewardship.

Recruit

The TLC always needs help recruiting new volunteers, donors, and other participants.

Project Lead

Do you know of a natural area you would like to see protected? Consider the TLC a partner. You can take the lead. Learn by working with the TLC.

Advocate

The TLC occasionally advocates for protection of natural areas or natural resource issues through public comment, articles, educational programs, and other efforts. Some of us have been working on these things for decades. Consider the TLC a partner.
